Ovens National School were pleased to announce the launch of the video “Clann Lir” on Friday, March 1st at 8.00pm in Éire Óg G.A.A. Pavillion. The video was launched by Brian Crowley M.E.P.

This was the culmination of Year 2 of a Comenius Project “Children’s Literature Through Fingers” which has been facilitated by Leargas. The story of the Children of Lir was dramatised by the children of the school. It was filmed on location in Kilcrea Abbey, Kilcrea Castle and Milstreet Country Park.

The original music and narration of the story was recorded in the school. The resultant film is an excellent celebration of the children’s skills and talents/ The video has been screened in Europe and has been warmly received by fellow teachers from Poland, Slovenia, Italy, Portugal, Germany and Sweden.
The Parents Association of Ovens National School hosted a Cheese and Wine reception in the local hall to celebrate the launch of the video. Brian Crowley kindly agreed to officiate at the launch. Representatives from Léargas, the Exchange Bureau, attended. Members of the Diplomatic Corps from the Embassies of our partner countries  were also invited to attend.

It is a unique opportunity for us to share with our European neighbours the wealth of cultural heritage represented so beautifully by our children. The locations of Millstreet and Kilcrea give a sense of the beauty of our countryside. The process of working together contributes to raising awareness of what it means to be European and to educating young people to take their place within a dynamic and developing Europe.
