|Home||We have a very active, hardworking Parent's Assocation which promotes general interest in the welfare of the school. It runs functions for parents and pupils of educational and social value, some of which provide finance to improve facilities in the school. Over the years they have raised a vast amount of money to purchase equipment such as computers,a TV, video recorder and photocopier and each class has a fine selection of extra readers which have been paid for almost exclusively by the Parent's Association.|
|Hello,my name is Paula O' Shea.|
I am the Chairperson of the Ovens NS Parents' Association. The Parents'
Association comittee meets a few times a year. There is an annual
general meeting in September where all parents are invited along.
Parents give suggestions they might have and also express any concerns.
We then turn to the principal Mr. Denis Lynch and put all the proposals
Over the years the P.A. has done some fund raising for things needed for the school. One of the more memorable events was the fashion show in which children and teachers modelled the clothes. The proceeds from this along with contributions from companies in the Ovens area resulted in the purchase of a computer for each classroom.
The Parent's Association is also responsible for the purchase and distribution of the school tracksuit. This has been working well for the last few years thanks to the co-operation of the parents and teachers.
We also organise light refreshments on the morning of the First Communion for the children and their families in the school hall. There was a particularly good response this year from the parents' of the first class children who will receive their Communion next year. On behalf of the Parents' Association I would like to take this oppertunity to thank these parents and hopefully we will have as great a response next year!
Last year it was suggested that the children should design a Christmas card. The children drew their pictures and one was chosen from each class. These were then made up into cards and sold as packs. It was a great success and the children were delighted to see their drawings as cards. We hope to continue this venture next year.
Now that you know who we are and what we do please don't hesitate to come and introduce yourself and put your ideas, suggestions and concerns if you have any to us and we would be delighetd to check it out for you. Our next AGM will be in September so please come along. We will notify you closer to the date when the meeting will take place.
Paula O' Shea.
