Port of Cork Schools Project

In March of this year three students from 5th class, Kate Nagle, Ciara Forde & Avril McSweeney took part in The Port of Cork Schools Initiative 2011. They entered a project based on this year's theme “Making Cork Harbour a Green Energy Hub for our Future" which asked them to look at Cork Harbour as an energy hub now and into the future. For their project they made an aero board model of the harbour. They looked at how they would harness energy such as wind, wave, electricity, solar & bio fuel / bio mass and how they would like to see Cork Harbour develop into a green energy hub.
The girls were invited to The Customs House, Port of Cork on Tuesday 12th April for the official presentation of Prizes. They received a certificate of participation from the The Chairman of The Port of Cork, Mr Dermot O’Mahoney. As part of the project Kate, Ciara & Avril received a Boat Trip around Cork Harbour . They invited their class along on this Boat Trip which will take place on Thursday 26th May 2011.

The class will be collected from school by bus at 9.20am and taken to The Port of Cork Customs House. From there they will be given a guided tour of the Customs House and then will be taken by boat on a tour of Cork Harbour . A bus will meet the class in Cobh and will bring everyone back to school.
