official opening and blessing of our lovely new building took
place on Tuesday, 20th May. Our guest of honour was the
school patron, Bishop John Buckley. We were blessed with a
beautiful sunny morning and a large crowd gathered for the
occasion. The children began proceedings by singing hymns, under
the direction of Carmel Dineen.
Hyde, our principal, and Richard Nagle, the chairman of the
school’s board of management, addressed the crowd,
thanking everyone who was involved in the project from inception
to completion. Bishop Buckley spoke about the strong school
community we have in Ovens and about the importance of the school
to the community in general. The bishop then cut the ceremonial
ribbon and blessed the school.
guests were then invited to Éire Óg hall for brunch followed by
a fantastic show performed by each class in the school- junior
infants to sixth class.
to the teachers, SNAs and to our drama teacher Irene Warren for
preparing these performances, and to everyone who helped out to
make this a very special day for Ovens National School.
