Sciath na Scol : 2013/14

Our boys and girls had a very successful football season in division one of Sciath na Scol this year.  In all we played 10 games each (including 2 friendlies) and trained very hard after school since the end of August.  We beat teams from very large schools such as Scoil Niocláis Douglas, Ballincollig Gaelscoil, Chríost Rí and Carrigaline Gaelscoil on the way to reaching both finals in November.  On Tuesday, 12th November, our boys’ team played Youghal in the final in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.  The Ovens team played some superb football to win the match by 8-9 to 0-2. Maith sibh a bhuachaillí mar bhí sibh ar fheabhas an bhlian go léir i gComhair traenáil, smacht agus imirt – tá an bua tuillte agaibh.  Our girls played upper Glanmire in their final next but, despite putting in a huge effort, they lost narrowly by 0-5 to 0-2.

We encourage the children to take part in as many sports as possible
and we co-operate fully with the local sports clubs in their efforts
to promote sports for children.

We take the children training after school if the weather is favourable and we enter
the Sciath na Scol competitions for Hurling, Camogie and Football (Boys and Girls)
in which we have won many cups, trophies and medals over the years.

We take part in the Cork City Sports every year and in recent years
we have won numerous medals and trophies.

For the past number of years we have organised specialised coaches for
various age groups in rugby, pitch and putt, soccer and tennis.
This coaching takes place during the normal school P.E. time.

Our school is well equipped for sports and we have a wide variety of
sports equipment available in the school. We also have a
school hall, a large outdoor area for games and an all-weather pitch is
available in the adjacent Éire Óg GAA facility. Our thanks to
Éire Óg GAA club for allowing us to use their pitches for
training and playing school matches and to the parents
who help us to take the children to matches.
